Technical Lead, China Innovation Hub
Who you’ll work with
China Innovation Hub (CIH) is a rapidly growing practice within
McKinsey’s Greater China office. It provides distinctive end-to-end
services to our clients on a wide variety of innovation related topics,
including digital implementation, new digital business setup, big
data analytics, digital / physical product design, digital marketing,
and digital center for operations excellence etc.
Joining China Innovation Hub at our Shanghai Office, you will be
part of an avant-garde internal start-up delivering world-class data
applications to generate lasting impact for McKinsey’s notable
clients in Greater China and beyond.
You’ll be actively cooperating with data scientists, product engineer
and digital consultants to incorporate clients’ requirements and
impactful analysis into our data products. You’ll also be an expert
in data engineering and advising relevant people at the firm on
technical aspects of analytics engagements.
What you’ll do
Technical Lead sit at the core of a big data revolution, which brings
McKinsey’s rich business acumen and advanced analytics
experience into production on a massive scale, both at our client’s
site and internally at the firm as a platform.
As a technical lead, you’ll
- Determine technology strategy and transformation roadmap
to align with the business strategy
- Innovate and architect performant technology enablers to
resolve challenging business problems;
- Work closely with product owner and digital consultants in an
Agile way to iteratively build solutions to deliver customer
value in time;
- Ensure tech operation excellence, design best-in-class
DevOps infrastructure, process and tools for in-time software
delivery and fast response to production issues;
- Provide hands-on technical leadership in both internal and
client’s dev team;
- Mentor and develop team members, provide constructive
feedback on design and code quality, and build an inclusive
culture with high performing teams.
Working with McKinsey as part of the China Innovation Hub provides

Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills for both business and technology
scenarios in English and Mandarin (both oral and written)
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related. Mathematics
and Statistics proficiency is a plus. Higher degrees preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills paired with the ability
to develop creative and efficient solutions
- Expertise in large-scale enterprise architecture and cloud-based
(Alicloud or AWS) solutions
- Above 3 years of experience in building high performance teams
and leading complex software development projects using Agile
methodologies
- Expert in data modeling, ETL design, data lineage management
and data governance for both traditional SQL and Big Data
infrastructure
- Above 3 years of experience building scalable applications using
Python, or some comparable languages like Java, or NodeJS etc.
- Rich experience in technology operation and DevOps infrastructure
such as Git, Jenkins, Docker, K8S and monitoring tools.
Product Owner, China Innovation Hub
Who you’ll work with

part of an avant-garde internal start-up delivering world-class data
applications to generate lasting impact for McKinsey’s notable
clients in Greater China and beyond.
You’ll be actively cooperating with tech lead, data scientists, product
engineer and digital consultants to incorporate clients’ requirements
and impactful analysis into our data products. You’ll also be an
expert in digital production with different industries first-hand
experience.
What you’ll do
You will lead the execution of digital product development and digital
transformation projects for leading industry players in Great China
or Asia-Pacific region.
As product owner, you will be a core member of the McKinsey
consulting team with responsibilities that range from shaping
strategic product designs to managing and transforming agile teams.
We engage on some of the most challenging business problems
facing our client. These projects can range from rapid process
re-inventions at leading financial institutions, ‘big data’ analytics at
large scale retail organizations, to consumer facing app or industrial
data platform development for traditional industries. In each
situation, our product owners are typically at the center of the
problem solving, advising our most senior clients on how to
successful execute on their strategic vision with digital means.
You will be well versed in all aspects of the product, including:
- Determine the valuable problem to solve, value to users,
business case, and product vision and roadmap
- Translating abstract visions into specific business
requirements while managing client’s expectation
- Through rigorous customer research determine user needs,
pain points, define MVP and potential solution, utilizing
methods such as storyboards, wireframes, product backlog
and user stories
- Cooperate with cross-functional team to build a prioritized
list of features in iterative sprints while consistently
delivering customer value
- Deploy MVP, pilot, measure key metrics and iterate based
on feedback subsequent releases. Drive change
management
Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills to influence senior client
business and IT executives, in English and Mandarin
(both oral and written)
- Bachelor's degree in business or technology subjects;
Higher degrees preferred
- Above 3 years of experience in leading Agile IT teams as
a product owner or product manager, to implement
leading solutions to promote business/customer value
- Energized by complex problem solving and ability to push
the innovation on solutions
- Expert in design thinking and proficiency in drawing
storyboards, creating wireframes, creating /rooming
product backlogs, writing user stories and developing
acceptance criteria
- Decision making and prioritization skills to ensure highest
value capture
- Ability to work under pressure from multiple parties,
managing client expectations and stakeholder conflicts
effectively
- Knowledge and understanding of software development
process and best practices (e.g. test-driven development,
continuous integration, etc.)
- Experience in coaching Agile teams is a plus
Data Scientist, China Innovation Hub
Who you’ll work with
Joining our Shanghai office as part of the China Innovation Hub,
you will work closely with our consultants in client projects as a
Data Scientist.

McKinsey’s Greater China office. It provides distinctive end-to-end
services to our clients on a wide variety of innovation related
topics, including digital implementation, new digital business
setup, big data analytics, digital / physical product design, digital
marketing, digital center for operations excellence, etc.
What you’ll do
As a Data Scientist, you will build complex data analyses and
models.
Being an expert in data analysis and its methodologies, the Data
Scientists will proactively work with our consultants to support
clients in a variety of industries by creating complex mathematical
models using an analytical approach to power critical business
functions. You will develop prototypes / analyze datasets in R,
Python, Tableau, Alteryx, etc.; conduct statistical analyses; and
evaluate large datasets. The work will be project oriented, and
you will often be responsible for the entire analytical process –
from task definition to implementation and from interpretation of
results to delivery to the client. You will discuss results with both
McKinsey consultants and clients in a constructive manner,
continuously searching for the best possible solution and
algorithm.
The work is multifaceted and exciting, and there will be new
intellectual challenges daily as well as opportunities to gain
insights into various industries and management approaches.

Qualifications
- Excellent communication skills in English and Mandarin
(both oral and written);
- Quantitative degrees from top universities (economics,
mathematics, statistics, physics, computer science,
operational research, financial engineering etc.) with
outstanding academic results; advanced degrees with
quantitative project experiences a plus;
- 3+ years’ data analytics related work experience in an
industry leading company;
- Focus on a specific industry (e.g., financial service,
retail, internet etc.) is preferable;
- An analytical thinker and also able to solve problems
creatively;
- Comprehensive computer skills with understanding of basic
coding, experience and knowledge of database and
statistical software (Such as SAS, R, Python), and ability to
work with large datasets;
- Deep knowledge about statistics and machine learning.
Domain expertise preferred: attribution, segmentation,
response modeling, churn, propensity, customer LTV,
supply chain / logistics, geospatial inference, recommender
systems, causal inference, forecasting, pricing;
- Ability to scope and define data sets needed for specific use
cases and identifying data gaps;
- Ability to translate scientific insights into product decisions
and work streams;
- Good people skills, team oriented, quality driven, highly
committed and professional;
